There are 2 self-guiding interpretive trails that cover this 97-acre site. 1 loop trail explains the site of the 1891 pioneer settlement and cemetery along the banks of the St. Lucie River. The other trail describes the importance of the early Native American mound and historic uses of native plants found along the trail.

This is a site of an early pioneer settlement and cemetery along the banks of the St. Lucie River. First settled in 1891, Spruce Bluff was made up of d a community of several families with a school, post office and sawmill.
A prehistoric Indian mound is located on the southern end of the preserve.
